It’s hard to top the reputations of Lungarotti and Scacciadiavoli, but with Arnaldo Caprai, we’ll try! Having been widely credited with the revival of the Sagrantino grape, Arnaldo Caprai is also known for transforming Montefalco into one of Italy’s finest grape-growing regions. Arnaldo’s son Marco is largely credited with the winery’s success, beginning in the 1980s. Caprai is known for spearheading major innovation in the region, leading the charge for research into the Sagrantino grape, identifying optimal clones and vineyard practices, improving winemaking techniques, and elevating the region to international renown. Marco Caprai is hailed as “the godfather of Sagrantino”.
