BODEGA K5:

It might be September, but we’re keeping the train rolling will all things patio-friendly! This month, a brand new wine to Michigan: Bodega K5. While the pronunciation might be a mouthful, the wine is remarkably light on its feet. Txakoli, pronounced chock-uh-lee, is a light, zippy, green, and mineral-driven white wine from the Basque region of Spain offering ocean-kissed wines at incredible value for their remarkable quality. The Getariako Txakolina region in Basque Country is widely regarded as the highest quality of the three sub-regions dedicated to the production of Txakoli (sometimes referred to as Txakolina). From the indigenous Hondarrabi grape, the wines are produced as Zuri (meaning white) or Beltza (meaning red). Traditionally poured at great heights into eager mouths from a porrón, Txakoli might be your next party wine!

Bodega K5 lies just above the Cantabrian Sea in the Basque region of Spain. In stark contrast to Spain’s reputation as dry, arid, and Mediterranean, Getariako Txakolina is distinctly green, with heavy maritime influence imparting a bright, verdant, and ocean-influence to the wines of the region. Pilota is crafted as a youthful expresson to the wines of Bodega K5, produced sobre lías, meaning on the lees for a period of five months. Lees-aging offers a textural element, balancing the zippy, bright, and green characters with weight, body, and depth. Beyond the Pilota bottling, Bodega K5 produces several perspectives of Txakoli, from the youthful Pilota, the cellar-worthy K5, to their luxurious bottling: Kaiaren. Kaiaren sees a staggering four years(!) on the lees, and has only been released one time from the 2016 vintage;

a small selection of these bottles are available on our digital cellar. Happy hunting!
